Overview

Solar Panel Cleaning done properly

Solar panels work by letting sunlight reach the cells. Dust, pollen, bird droppings, leaf litter and, near the coast, salt film build up on the glass and reduce how much light gets through. Rain helps with loose dust, but it does not shift bird droppings or the sticky grime that bakes on in our summers.

We clean panels from the ground with a carbon water-fed pole, a soft brush and purified, deionised water. Purified water dries without leaving spots or residue, so there is no need for chemicals or detergent. We never use a pressure cleaner on panels and we never walk on them, which protects the glass, the frames and your warranty.

While we clean, we keep an eye out for visible damage such as cracked glass, and for birds nesting under the panels, and we report anything we see to you. We never touch the wiring, inverter or electrical parts of your system.

Our method

How we approach solar panel cleaning

  1. 1

    Check

We look at the panels from the ground, note any visible damage or nesting birds, and set up the water-fed pole and purified water.

  2. 2

    Clean

Each panel is scrubbed gently with a soft brush while purified water flows through it, lifting bird droppings, pollen and grime without chemicals.

  3. 3

    Rinse and report

The panels get a final rinse with purified water so they dry clear, and we tell you about anything we noticed during the clean.

Local conditions

Why Moreton Bay and Brisbane north homes need it

Moreton Bay and Brisbane north get plenty of sun, but also dust, pollen, storms that drop leaves and debris, and birds that perch along roof lines. Homes near the water around Redcliffe, Bribie and Deception Bay also collect a fine salt film on the glass.

Rain alone does not remove bird droppings or the grime that builds up between storms, so most panels benefit from a clean once or twice a year. It is also worth having panels cleaned before selling or leasing a home, when buyers and tenants are paying attention to running costs.

Best for

  • Panels with visible bird droppings or grime
  • Homes near the coast with salt build-up
  • Panels under or near trees
  • Owners who want a yearly or six-monthly clean
  • Two-storey homes where panels are hard to reach
  • Homes being prepared for sale or lease

Problems we fix

  • Bird droppings
  • Dust and dirt film
  • Pollen
  • Leaf litter and debris
  • Salt film near the coast
  • Water spots left by tap water

FAQ

Solar Panel Cleaning questions

Can't see your question? Call us and ask.

How much does solar panel cleaning cost?

Cleaning up to 12 panels starts from $180 per visit, and each extra panel is $10. Two-storey homes are $70 extra, so 16 panels on a single-storey home would start from $220.

Why clean solar panels at all?

Dirt, bird droppings, pollen and salt film reduce how much light reaches the cells. Cleaning removes that build-up so the panels can take in as much light as they are able to.

Doesn't the rain clean them?

Rain rinses off some loose dust, but it does not remove bird droppings or baked-on grime. Tap water and rain can also leave spots behind as they dry.

Do you use chemicals or a pressure cleaner?

No. We use purified, deionised water and a soft brush only. Pressure cleaners and harsh chemicals can damage panel coatings and seals.

Do you walk on the panels or get on the roof?

We never walk on panels. We clean from the ground using a carbon water-fed pole, which works for both single-storey and two-storey homes.

How often should solar panels be cleaned?

Once or twice a year suits most homes. Panels near the coast, under trees or where birds roost may need cleaning more often.

Will you check my system while you are there?

We report any visible damage, such as cracked glass, and any birds nesting under the panels. We never touch the wiring or electrical parts, so any electrical concern should go to a licensed electrician or your solar installer.
